Christmas season is soon approaching and it will soon be time to don the apron. Not a bad idea then to start prep-ping for the upcoming kitchen adventures. No better start than making this Authentic British Mixed Spice blend.

The British Mixed Spice is an age-old Spice-blend used in British cooking in both sweet and savoury goods, especially during Christmas season. It is most famously used in the oh so rich and yummy Christmas Cake! It has a warm, sweet-spicy aroma and flavour, perfect for winter cooking/baking.

How to make British Mixed Spice

There is no set ratio as such for the ingredients that go into this spice-blend. Feel free to experiment with the ratios and arrive at your preferred flavour profile for this spice blend. It has a predominant cinnamon flavour and would be fun to experiment substituting it in dishes which use cinnamon, giving the dish an all new depth of flavour.

To achieve the most potent flavour, it is advisable to freshly grind the whole spices. The ground spices start losing their essential oils over time and hence lose the potency of their flavour, it is advisable to make this blend in small batches as and when needed
